Many chemical reactions depend on substances that are difficult to recover and can pollute the process. This study describes a solid helper that works without a solvent, works in water, and can be used again. What if a catalyst could make a complex medicinally relevant molecule without solvent, deliver a ninety-eight percent yield, and then be recovered for reuse? This paper tests exactly that idea with silica-supported iron Lewis acids.
